The Lake was created in 1773 by Nathaniel Richmond, assistant to the famous landscape architect Capability Brown. Covering 12 acres, its water is shared by wildlife and [Bexley Watersports].
Interesting fact: the lake was filled in during World War II to prevent it being used as a landmark for enemy aircraft.
Created by damming the Danson stream at its eastern end, the lake does become silted up. The last major restoration took place in 2006 with support from Heritage Lottery Fund.
